Lift weights for better bones

Resistance training reduces the risk of osteoporosis – that is the widespread belief. How much is enough – and is there a point where a lot is too much?

Many studies have shown that strength training can help slow bone loss, and in some cases even build bone. As we get older do we have to go into a state of physical decline or can we do more to prevent bone and muscle loss – or even to encourage new growth of bone and muscle density?

I’m 56 and have never been fitter of stronger. I do crossfit. I frequently lift heavy barbells and push myself to my limit. I’m striving to maintain my body in its best condition for the duration of my life.

What do you do to maintain your body, bone health and muscle strength? do you think it’s worth the effort?
