7 tips for stress management

Stress comes form all angles – work, family, relationships, environmental, dietary, lifestyle, bacterial, viral, sunlight – you name it, it causes a reaction in your body. The body is designed to cope with much of this stress – and does so very well: up to a point. The tipping point – where the stressors overwhelm the body’s coping mechanisms – is when signs of stress start to show.

The signs and symptoms of stress are many and varied and include things such as nervous breakdown, inability to sleep well, loss of energy, manifestation of autoimmune disease (or worse) and early ageing – to name a few

As a practicing dentist for the best part of 30 years I saw first hand the effects of this ‘tipping point’. How I’d love to help those people now.

More stories for another day – but in the meantime my 7 tips to deal with stress:

1 Acknowledge that you have a problem – being aware is the first step to making changes.

2 Take a step back and look at what is important to you. Have you become trapped in a lifestyle that no longer brings you joy?

3 Get help. When I was trapped in my business the help I needed wasn’t there – now I have come across so many excellent people who can help you make the changes you need.

4 Accept there are things you can change and those you can’t. Work on the things you can do something about and leave the others. Worrying won’t help.

5 Do yoga. Yoga is a positive step to taking care of you. Aim for the type of yoga that focuses on calming your mind and leaves you feeling blissed out. Contact me if you’d like talk about this.

6 Meditation – can be a follow on from the yoga – meditation and mindfulness are techniques to still the busy mind. There are many ways into meditation – it can be as simple as a walk in the countryside allowing the mind to focus in the sights and sounds – loosing yourself in music, creativity or exercise – or a more structured meditation such as transcendental. Your choice.

7 Nutrigenomics – modern science has identified naturally occurring compounds which have been proven to positively impact the body’s reaction to stress at a cellular level. Ask me for more on this subject.

Nutrigenomics – the moderns science of how food can impact your body at a celluar level

Stress from all sources affects the body at a cellular level resulting in early signs of ageing as well as leaving the body more susceptible to onset of disease. Don’t let your lifestyle destroy your life quality.
