Daylight Saving

It almost doesn’t really matter what time you call it, winter or summer – short hours of daylight or shorter hours of darkness, I’m a person that wakes up to the sound of the birds waking up and the sun making its appearance. When the sun sets in the winter months and it’s dark by 4pm – you’ll find me wrapped up on the sofa and ready to hibernate.

Daylight saving to me means getting up to greet the sunrise – making the most of the available hours: going out for a walk if the sun shine breaks through the clouds for a while (it does that quite often, I’ve noticed now I’m retired).

I’ve never totally got why we bother shifting the hours around in the spring and autumn – yes, I get it’s to do with children walking to school in the winter and farmers in the North – but in today’s world surely this matter less? Surely it would save us all a lot of bother if we just adjusted our habits a little to suit the changing seasons. Save our own daylight locally, as it were.

Getting up with the sun instead of having the clock tell you when to rise feels far more ‘in tune’ and makes a lot of sense to me. Time to slow down and enjoy the journey?
